Premium Stainless Steel Cookware
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

There are plenty of quality cookware collections available on the market including Calphalon, All-Clad, T-Fal and others. Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has a line of cookware which is made by All-Clad and recently Kitchen Aid and the quality knife maker Henckles have produced cookware that is out on the market.

Some stainless steel cookware retains heat by utilizing a cooper bottom. Stainless steel quality cookware sets is typically durable and non-reactive which are two qualities to look for when choosing pots and pans. You will typically have to use fats while using these pans in order to prevent your food from sticking to the surface.

All-Clad

Numerous reviews concerning stainless steel cookware have been completed and All Clad cookware has come out on top as the best premium stainless steel cookware available on the market.  All-Clad pots and pans are well known for their construction which includes a heavy aluminum core which continues up to the sides of the pans. The aluminum is covered by a stainless steel cooking surface and covered by a bottom layer of magnetic stainless steel. All Clad cookware is very popular with chefs throughout the world.

Their cookware is very sturdy and you will notice the significant increase in weight of these pans when compared to most other stainless steel cookware. Their handles are riveted on and are very sturdy. All clad cookware has inspectors check the cookware at every stage during the manufacturing process to make sure all their pots and pans meet their quality standards. They produce premium stainless steel cookware however their pots and pans are more expensive than most other brands.

Cast Iron Cookware

Some people looking for quality cookware end up purchasing a few items made from cast iron. A cast iron skillet is excellent at retaining heat as well as searing meat. When looking for a top of the line Dutch oven experts suggest you choose non-reactive enamel coated Dutch oven made out of cast iron. These pots are expensive; however they will last a very long time with proper care.  Experts suggest that lower priced, inferior coated Dutch ovens easily chip.

The typical Calphalon pan has been designed with a tri-ply construction consisting of a layer of aluminum situated between two layers of stainless steel. The Calphalon Tri-Ply stainless and Calphalon Contemporary Stainless collections are manufactured with the aluminum core that continues up the sides of the pans.

Kitchen Aid received a favorable professional review for their line of cookware. The cookware they reviewed did have an aluminum core surrounded by stainless steel, however the aluminum core did nor extend up the sides of the pans, thus its heat conduction is not at the same level as All-Clad cookware. Cuisinart’s Chef’s Classic Stainless line of cookware is constructed with an aluminum bottom and the aluminum does not extend to the sides of the pans.  If you enjoy cooking you might want to consider buying some quality cookware and there is a variety to choose from.

Coupon Craze Concerns
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

Internet coupons have multiplied coupon exposure rates enormously, providing access to more coupons for more stores and more products than ever before. This is comparable to bringing casino tables to a gambling addict. For lots of individuals, particulary women, saving money can be motivating so much that it becomes and end all by itself. People in the marketing profession are well aware that there are coupon addicts out there and as such there are online coupon websites named Coupon Addictioncom and Eve’sAddictioncom. Coupons

Shoppers who craze coupons generally have 2 main concerns. The first thing to worry about is that you might spend more money with coupons than without. Creating strife or tension within the family forms a second concern many bargain hunters face. Grocery Coupons

They do not need at stores they do not usually frequent, exaggerated obsession about landing a good deal leads shoppers to buy quantities of items. Purchasing a product just because you have a 50% off coupon for it is not saving money particularly when it will not be used. Taking a drive to a far away store for a coupon may end up costing you more in terms of gas money. In both scenarios, you spend money you wouldn’t have if you did not have the coupons! Internet Coupons

Use these tips to help manage your craving for coupons if you feel yourself slipping out of control of the couping craze.

1-When printing online coupons, remember to include the cost of your printer ink. Print only those coupons you know you will use. Consider not only the product or store, but also the expiry date of the coupon. if you are not sure that you can shopping before the ended day,do not create the coupon.

2-Making plans is extremely important especially when you use grocery coupons to lessen the cost of your food expenditures. Plan meals and make a grocery list before you shop. After you develop your complete list of real needs, start looking for coupons. On the other hand, you can plan what you want to cook based on the coupons you already have. This way you are able to make full use of your coupons before they reach their expiration dates.

3-Take an inventory and list all of the products currently in your cupboards, pantry, or closets. People addicted to collecting coupons generally horde large amounts of merchandise purchased only because they were cheap. You have to be honest with yourself, even if it hurts, write everything downa nd start to use your list. Don’t buy more of an item you have stockpiled, even if you have new coupons, until you have used up what you already bought.

4-Implicit in the preceding point is that you must train yourself to pass up bargain opportunities for products you do not need. It’s really hard for the ones who become obsessed with couponing. It consists of being true to yourself when you ask if you really need a product and if you are going to use it soon, especially if it is perishable or if it is a health item. Take into consideration the room you have for items that are non-perishables, if you do not have room to store them then there is no need to stock up on the great finds.

5-Those of you who lack the willpower to apply the above recommendations have two more options. To satisfy your addiction by proxy, the first allows you. Show someone all about online coupons, and help them save. The thrill should be similar without requiring that you spend money on items you don’t need. The second option will give you spending habits a new purpose, instead of giving a limit. Donating excess household supplies or food items to a good cause is simple.

the second issue that may be a concern for coupon crazed shoppers, creating tension or discord within the family. Online couponing is a worthy and perfectly commendable pursuit. If you’re not careful with a coupon strategy and setting limits, it is easy to be overwhelmed by them at the expense of the rest of your time and interests. You can access coupons on the Internet all day, everyday. If the truth were known, you can most likely find new coupons on the Internet on an hourly basis.

Finding and obtaining online coupons is without a doubt a solitary activity. More time spent looking for them is less quality time to spend with family. Not only is a lot of time spent on finding online coupons and looking at different orders, online coupon websites can take up even more time by providing more options such as coupon trading. Online coupon forums will introduce you to many new friends and you can spend hours discussing deals, coupons, and how to save money with other coupon addicts.

To prevent stress or problems, restrict the time you take finding, making a comparison, talking about or switching online coupons. Pick another time when other people living in the home will not feel left out. Don’t put your obesssion with coupons onto other members of your family. Nor is your husband obliged to stop at every store for which you have redeemable coupons, you do not have to eat at a restaurant just because you can redeem a couple of coupons there.

Coupon crazed shoppers have often forgotten the real benefits of online coupons. They will often spend too much instead of contributing to household savings and finding appreciation for this act. Combined with the time spent online and away from other family members,

Carbonated Water
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

Carbonated water eases the symptoms of some forms of stomach aches, as well as easing constipation. Unfortunately, this is something that I had to learn the hard way (which is how I usually learn all my lessons).

The main symptom of stomach problems that I have is feeling bloated or fullness in the upper abdominal region after overeating; admittedly, overeating is something I do a lot. Suffering was my normal experience; then I started working for a man who would always take water and baking soda whenever he had these symptoms. One day, really miserable, I tried his remedy; after a short while, I felt markedly better.

Naturally, I did some research to learn why this works so well. This was long before antacid medications were sold over the counter (OTC) and also long before people could run to the doctor with every stomach problem, ache, or pain. Basically, adding baking soda with water produces carbon dioxide gas with bubbles; somehow the bubbles and the ingredients form a solution that aids the movement of the digestive tract, relieving some of the unpleasantness from overeating – that bloated feeling goes away.

This adding baking soda and water actually forms carbonated water which has been used for years to treat digestive complaints, yet no research exists if it is effective or how it works. I discovered studies showing that both the bubbles of carbon dioxide and the presence of high minerals can stimulate the digestive process. Basically, this is what I was making with water and baking soda. I discovered no information on which component — the bubbles or the mineral-rich carbonated water — is more effective.

I found some suggestions for stopping these problems before they develop, such as avoiding foods that cause your stomach problems, eating smaller meals, eating much less fat, and if you smoke, stopping as soon as possible. Everyone should drink a healthy amount of fluids to maintain movement of the Gastrointestinal tract and counter constipation.

I read about some devices to make homemade carbonated water, which you can use for drinking. By adding a number of flavors, this seems to be a great option for drinks instead of regular soda pop, especially if you want to avoid the calories. If you make this homemade drink with water rich in minerals, you have made a very healthy and low calorie drink called sparkling water which is good for your whole family. A large assortment of calorie free flavors to flavor sparkling water to great taste is sold at allfreight.com.

But, the information that I do know from personal experience is that carbonated water does help when you have overeaten and are absolutely miserable and are at work for the rest of the day.

Thailand Vacation -Thai Food Review
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

I adore Thai food Even before I went on my first Thailand vacation , I frequented Thai food haunts first in London, then when I moved to New Zealand, I discovered a couple of Thai eateries in the New Zealand capital, Wellington

And then I went on an extended Asia vacation. And here, in the Land of Smiles the Thai food is authentic . You can really taste the subtle blend of spices and texures that make a Thai meal an experience in itself .

I was amazed , though, to find out from the locals how varied the the dishes are in the different areas in the ancient kingdom of Siam . There are four major regions and they have their own special cuisine. And sometimes you can find foreign aspects in the menu that have combined with Thai cooking over the centuries and melted into the distinct Thai flavour.

For example, the North of Thailand evolved its own culturethat is not only unique in language and customs but also in its cuisine. Over the aeons, this part of Thailand was ruled sometimes by Burma or Myanmar as it is now known , and sometimes by the old kingdom of Ayutthaya that attracted adventurers and traders .

So, in the North you get the traditional sticky rice that is made into bite size portions with your fingers and then used to mop up the sauces from other dishes . The northern curries are less harsh on the Western palet than the fiery offerings from other parts of the country , and you can find specialities like moo ( Pork ) that is deep fried until it is crispy .

In the Northeast this gastronomic wonderland , in Y-san as it is popularly called, you get your food highly seasoned and hot. Some of the local dishes include the famous papaya salad which local girls swear is the best weight loss tool available . Lap which is a hot and spicy minced meat or chicken salad, and the flavoursome Kai Yang, barbequed chicken. Like the Thais in the North, they like their rice glutinous, and here they use it as a desert as well. Sticky rice and mango is a reason to travel to Thailand in itself .

The central region of Thailand is where the the Thai dishes that you know about come from. local spices such as garlic, black pepper and fermented fish made into a sauce were over time complimented with citrus fruits such as limes, tomatos and locally grown coriander . The chilli pepper, without which a Siamese banquet wouldn’t be a Thai meal, was introduced from the Americas . This is interesting because these peppers are now essential in Siamese cookery .

Fruit plays an important role in a Siamese menu , and often you get a complimentary plate of fresh local fruit to round off your meal .

The influence of Malaysia can be noticed in the food of Southern Thailand. As this area is also a coastal region , there is plenty of fish and seafood available. Lobsters, crabs, squids, scallops, mussels all have their place in the local diet .

Coconut milk is used here to take the heat off the chilli-laced curries and soups . Coconut oil is used for frying, and the white insides you eat as a flavoring . There are also many places that grow cashew nuts , and the Thais make a really great dish which you may know as chicken and cashew nut .

I like the almost unbelievably hot yellow curries , and also the more user friendly curry Massaman which is seasoned with cloves, cardamom and cinnamon and reminds me a little of an Indian curry. Sa Te which are pieces of meat barbequed by being cooked on skewers and served with a palate testing peanut and chilli sauce is yet another Thai food experience that has become part of International cuisine.

Considering just how much time the Thais spend eating and the variety that is available I have often wondered how they all stay so slim …?

Precautions to Take with Low Cost Quality Cookware Sets
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

When it comes to shopping for a new cookware set, everyone has different things in mind. Not everyone wants or needs the same things where cookware is concerned. One thing, however, that everyone thinks about, is where they can find quality cookware sets. Usually, just by buying a set, you are saving money compared to purchasing your pieces individually. But as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, even with cookware sets. One thing to remember is that there’s a difference between cheap and low cost. Cheap typically refers to the quality of an item instead of the price. Below  are some of the best options for low cost quality cookware sets.

Non Stick Film

This is because if the quality is bad, the low cost quality cookware you buy will end up costing you more as you will need to spend more money, time and effort to go out and buy new cookware after this one warps, breaks, rusts or gets damaged in some other way. Another way in which low cost quality cookware can be a nightmare is if the non-stick of the pan starts to peel. While results are inconclusive, many studies have shown that f the non-stick film on the bottom of pans starts to chip and peel, it can cause the food to be contaminated sometimes even to the extent of becoming a cause of cancer and therefore should be disposed off immediately.

Aluminum Cookware

Aluminum cookware is one of the two most reasonably priced options on the market. It usually comes in one of two different types, anodized and enamel coated cookware. Although they are fairly inexpensive, both of these have their drawbacks. The anodized aluminum is not safe for dishwashers and is vulnerable to staining. The enamel coated aluminum has a tendency to chip and will warp relatively easy. Although aluminum will serve your purpose if your purpose is simply cooking, it’s not something that you would want to put on display. You will also probably need to replace it every several years. Even with it’s reasonable price, aluminum doesn’t seem to fit the bill of low cost quality cookware sets.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel cookware is probably the most widely used cookware for household cooking. Many restaurants also rely on stainless steel cookware. There are a number of reasons for this. Obviously it’s one of the most affordable types on the market, but it holds a few advantages over aluminum. First it’s more durable and longer lasting than aluminum and will usually not warp over time. Staining won’t be a problem either with this type of material. Stainless steel is also easy to clean, either by hand or in a dishwasher. If cared for properly, stainless steel cookware will look good enough for storage in plain view, if you like. Of the cookware sets at the lower end of the price scale, stainless steel seems to be the best option if your looking for low cost quality cookware sets.

Keeping Chemicals Out With Organic Foods
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

Natural foods are foods that lack refined sugars, refined flours, milled grains, hydrogenated oils, sweeteners, food colors, or artificial flavorings. Some advocates say they choose organic foods and natural food because they feel processed foods promote obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer, among other things. Other proponents feel that natural, healthy foods are a way of life that promotes more conscionable choices.

The Natural Foods Movement includes all foods that are pesticide-free, hormone-free and antibiotic-free, are grass-fed/free-range, genetically modified foods free, not pasteurized and made using no refining processes. The problem with this movement is that it is formulated based on the hypothesis that artificial flavorings, sweeteners, preservatives, chemicals, hormones and other additives are bad for the body.

best foods
However, there have never been any conclusive long-term studies proving this notion, so the movement has failed to be fully realized by the mainstream. Even so, with the obesity epidemic, many of our favorite foods are being looked at with increased scrutiny as more people decide that vegetarian, vegan, organic or natural cooking is something they’d like to try.

The basic philosophy of best foods proposes that our modern society is well-fed but undernourished. It is believed that many of the farming, refining and packaging processes we use depletes our food of the maximum amount of nutrients and minerals. Food should be grown in organically-enriched soil that is full of minerals, from either composting or manure, rather than with chemically fertilized soil.

A proper meal should contain protein, greens, dairy and grains, rather than an imbalanced assortment of foods. Food should be eaten for the nutritive content, rather than for calories to simply live. Rather than taking supplements, it is felt that people should be able to get all their nutrition from raw foods.

weight loss
Natural foods may seem difficult for carnivores, but there are many alternatives. Organic foods stipulate that animals must not be confined 100% of the time, that they cannot eat food that has been chemically tampered with and that they cannot receive hormones or antibiotics. However, strict adherents to the natural foods movement will not eat egg yolks, but will substitute egg whites or egg substitutes instead.

Fat-free or low-fat dairy foods should be used rather than full-fat. Olive and canola oils are chosen in place of butter or lard. Instead of fatty cold cuts or sausages, lean ground meats and skinless poultry are preferable. Rather than canned, breaded or fried meats, fish and cold-water salmon can be used.

Natural foods should be part of any weight loss, including raw foods like carrots, broccoli, celery, peppers, tomatoes and lettuce should be eaten regularly to absorb the maximum amount of nutrients.

healthy foods
While many vitamins can be taken as supplements, it’s better to derive them from natural sources. The best way to get natural foods is to shop at a Whole Foods Market or specialty foods shop online. Otherwise it can be one agonizing shopping trip reading each and every label in-depth!

Dirt Cake Recipe
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

When people have children and they want to make a tasty dessert treat they often turn to a good dirt cake recipe.  This is a cake that looks like dirt or mud.  This can include crushed Oreo cookies, pudding or other ingredients.  There are many sources for good recipes online.

dirt cake recipe

The Disney family website has an excellent dirt cake recipe.  Disney says the cake will make people talk.  It’s a treat for even an adult.  Make it in a flower pot.  This recipe has pudding as well as cream filled chocolate cookies.  Build up layers of pudding, whipped cream and crushed cookies.  It’s the cookies that give it the dirt look.

There’s nothing in a good dirt cake recipe that has anything to do with good nutrition.  However, it can be included in a healthy diet.  A typical recipe might include nearly 1000 calories per serving.  It’s also loaded with fat and carbohydrates.  Eat too much of that in even the best diet will be broken.  Good things kids don’t diet.

Google can help find a dirt cake recipe.  Over 236,000 pages are returned.  One such involves a popular brand name cookie.  Kids enjoy it during the summer.  Make it inside a children’s pale.  It involves Oreo cookie crumbs, with layers of cream cheese and pudding, topped again with more Oreo cookie crumbs.  This recipe suggests decorating the top with gummy worms.  It really appears to be a pale filled with dirt.

A dirt cake recipe isn’t for all children.  They like to eat the real dirt from the ground.  This is common for children, in moderation.  Kids who constantly eat dirt have an eating disorder.  They consume things that don’t have any nutition in them.  It can be a sign of mental retardation.  Or the child may not be getting enough iron.  Children eat the dirt to get iron.

Eating dirt can lead to a number of problems.  This includes ingesting a parasite and becoming infected.  That’s a real risk where animals defecate.  The dirt may also contain toxins.  Dirt eaters should see a good pediatrician.  It is often addressed with behavior modification.  Some children can be distracted from dirt with something else they like.

Purchase Gourmet Food Gift Online – Excellent Quality And Convenience
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

It can safely be said that people of different persuasions and of different ages all love receiving gourmet food gifts regardless of the occasion and whether it is a birthday or even anniversary or for that matter Christmas and even Mother’s and Father’s Day, such gifts are most welcome. In fact, giving such gifts is one surefire method of pleasing the recipient since it helps to make them feel special and who doesn’t like biting into some tasty morsels of food?

Cheese Is Very Popular

Thus, it pays to learn about the most popular gourmet food gifts and also who to gift such items to. Perhaps, the first thing that comes to mind when choosing gourmet food gifts is to give someone, especially foodies, gourmet cheeses, especially those that are made in Spain, Italy, Ireland and England and also from the US. You could include genuine cheddars from England or true Brie from France and be sure that the person that receives such gourmet food gifts will truly appreciate receiving the gift and will also be able to savor them no end.

Reasonable Convenience

If you love to cook and love to make fine cuisine, but you don’t have access to gourmet food shops in your area, you can purchase gourmet food online. These items are delivered to your home — even frozen foods can be delivered through overnight shipping. If you do order gourmet food online, expect to pay a significant price both for the food and shipping, especially for foods that easily spoil. Still, the extra price is well worth the convenience.  It’s cheaper than taking an airplane to the country and back!

Being able to purchase gourmet foods online comes in handy, not just with gourmet, but also with ethnic foods.  For example, say you are interested in making a traditional Japanese dish for a party and don’t have a lot of time to prepare it.  Unless you live near an area with a large Asian population, finding some of the ingredients that would go into these dishes traditionally is practically impossible.  However, by having access to the internet you can have access to specialty Asian food sites to find everything you need for your party.

Thus, you can choose from a wide variety of things to make your gourmet food gifts either decadent or merely functional and healthy. Whatever you choose, you can be sure that you will put a smile on many a face and gladden many a heart.

Is Organic Baby Food really Safer and Healthier
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

The use of pesticides on crops and growth hormones and antibiotics in livestock has been proven to compromise babies’ health which is the reason why organic baby food sales have skyrocketed. Babies’ bodies do not have developed immune systems and their brain development is very susceptible to outside influences such as diet. When toxic materials such as pesticide residue on fruits and vegetables or the presence of growth hormones in milk are introduced, all developing systems of babies are compromised.

Federal Standards are Cold Comfort

The 1990’s brought a massive growth to the organic food industry as well as brand new federal regulations about using pesticides and even the banning of pesticides. But this is no comfort to parents who have already regular jarred or prepared baby foods for their first meals. Most companies have complied with these standards but often admit there are still low levels of chemicals in their baby foods still. There is no sure way to eradicate these toxins unless you go totally organic baby food.

Health Gains For Babies

Babies totally raised on organic food will realize a healthier immune system and their brain development including hormones and the central nervous system will greatly benefit as well. The exposure to toxins in food can cause allergies, mental impairment, behavior issues and more. In fact, expectant moms are strongly encouraged to adopt an organic eating plan as these toxins consumed in their own diets could cross the umbilical cord to the fetus.

While organic baby food can be found in many retail grocery store chains, you will always find a better selection in your local health food or whole foods markets. Be sure to comparison shop in several of your local markets as prices can vary widely with organic products. Sign up for email grocery store alerts so you know when your favorite products are on sale. Organic baby food will be a little more expensive but the health of your baby is well worth the price.

There is also an option of making your own organic baby food and a large number of organic baby food recipes can be found on the internet or even in old fashioned cook books. Try adapting any baby food recipe by using only organic products instead of traditional ones containing the toxins and antibiotics we are trying to rid our baby off.

For the large part, organic baby food is made by blending organic fruits, vegetables and other foods until it is a consistency babies can tolerate for instance a puree for babies just starting and a little chunky for toddlers who have teeth.

Dirt Cake
Archive for April, 2009 | by admin |In General | No Comments

Lot’s of people love to eat dirt cake.  It’s popular for kids’ parties.  The cake looks a lot like dirt.  To kids it’s the height of a funny joke.

dirt cake

When kids eat real dirt instead of a dirt cake it can be cause for alarm.  It could be a sign of mental retardation.  There are problems involved too.  If there has recently been animal feces in the dirt a child could develop an infestation of parasites.  Lead poisoning can also come from eating dirt.  It’s normal for children to eat a little bit of dirt.  But some children go too far.  Anemia can cause this behavior.  That is having an iron efficiency in the blood.  Iron supplements can help.

Dirt cake isn’t really cake.  It’s really pudding, cookie crumbs, some type of whipped dessert topping, and a few other simple ingredients.  People serve it in pails.  Add a shovel to really have fun.  It can even be topped with gummy worms or candy flowers.

dirt cake recipe

The Internet is full of dirt cake recipes.  Try Google.  Over 420,000 sites result.  Many of the recipes contain the same ingredients.

Smash up some Oreo cookies for the dirt cake.  Layer crumbs, then pudding, then crumbs.  Add the last layer of cookies just before eating it.  Whoever invented it was a genius.

Any dieter will be cheating if they eat dirt cake.  All the ingredients are pretty unhealthy.  Typically a serving will have over 900 calories, nearly 50 Grams of fat, and nearly 100 Grams of carbohydrates.  People who are into reading labels will understand just how bad that is.

Dirt cake can be a part of a balanced diet.  It’s all about moderation.  Eat a very small piece.  Or save it for the day you get a little treat.  Long term eating makes or breaks a diet.  If your calories and nutrition are under control on a day to day basis, than once in awhile splurging isn’t out of the question.
